Billy Tran Dang, 2012 Seymour Award Finalist

In his personal statement, Billy, a senior at Buena Park High School, shares that CSF has "contributed towards his development as a leader and an individual who aspires to motivate others by acting as an example." Actively involved in his chapter, Billy writes that he became "more committed to serving others and promoting undeniable dedication for the community." He says, "CSF is one of the best things ever to happen to me..."

Denise Kirk, adviser of chapter 565, writes of Billy, "He is an excellent student, a wonderful person, a dedicated leader, and he makes my job as a CSF adviser much easier." Billy has been a reliable and tireless leader who, as Ms. Kirk says has "always gone above and beyond the call of duty." Billy can always be counted on to make every event a success.

The Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Buena Park, Elizabeth Swift, writes of Billy, whom she has worked with for the past four years, "He is respectful and responsible, and he works hard to be an excellent role model to younger children." Ms. Swift acknowledges Billy's commitment to his community through his work on her 2010 campaign, as well as other volunteer positions he participated in, such as planting trees and tutoring GATE students. Says Ms. Swift, "Billy is a credit to the Buena Park community."

As he moves on to college, Billy dreams of pursuing a career which will allow him to help others in his community, and motivate children to want to go to college. He plans to study political science, engineering, or perhaps media studies, and is looking forward to deciding between colleges such as Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine and UCLA.
