Britany Lewis, 2012 Seymour Award Finalist

An active member of her local CSF chapter, Britany has held the positions of Vice President as well as President and has participated in food sales, the annual MLK day of service and creating posters for Club days. In ASB Britany has served as both the President and Recognition Commissioner. In school clubs, she has been everything from the Secretary of Teen Builders to Key Club President, God Squad Secretary and African American Female Initiative Historian. She has also been placed on the Youth Policy Advisory Committee and serves as a representative of ICC Inner Club Council. For her outstanding involvement Britany has received the Community Service Award for the City of Lancaster, a leadership certificate from CADA (The California Association of Directors of Activities) and a Certificate of Recognition from Lead America. She has accomplished all of this with a 4.39 GPA, perfect attendance and has earned the distinction of being one of her school's valedictorians. She is currently ranked 5th out of 410 students.

Rika Moya, a guidance counselor and CSF Adviser at Antelope Valley High School writes about Britany after working closely with her for the past 3.5 years that She has dedicated her high school career to serving others and Has also demonstrated that that giving back is the right thing to do. Tracey Chainey, Pupil Services Technician at Antelope Valley High School explains that Britany's Perseverance in the face of adversity is what makes her an exceptional person in my eyes. She gives of herself although nothing has been given to her. If more people were like Britany, things would look much different for society today. About her own achievements, Britany writes in her personal statement that I am not only trying to reach the top, but along the way I will bring groups of people with me. Britany plans to be the first generation in her family to attend college and get involved with community service. Her future goals of becoming a pediatrician will begin in the fall as she begins college.
