Naushaba Akhtar Khan, 2012 Seymour Award Finalist
Naushaba comes to us from Silver Creek HS in San Jose where she is Vice President of her CSF chapter. She is deeply involved in beautification of her high school, the native gardens and the San Jose municipal gardens. She enjoys Christmas in the park and the bookshelf projects that her CSF club sponsors. She spends time with Interact club, Unicef, Almaden Music School and volunteers at a day care center. She has been recognized through the Superintendents Honor Roll, was 1st place for the MLK Awards in US History and English along with being an AP scholar with honors.
Mr. Taylor, her advisor, shared that Naushaba has a famous backpack. He feels that her work ethic is truly as strong as her back carrying all she needs all the time. She is Mr. Taylors "go to officer." She is instrumental in her CSF chapter's success. Ms. McLean of the Mc Kon Dance School has known Naushaba for 3 years and says that she has "shown excellent work ethic determination, and a positive attitude. She always give 110%, always." Naushaba shared in her personal statement that she has found her strength through mastering fear, the will for betterment, and the ability to persevere." She found her interest of Biology after her family experienced some illness. She wants to major in biology and minor in English/Journalism at her #1 college choice - Santa Clara College.
