Olga Velichko, 2012 Seymour Award Finalist
Foothill High School in Sacramento brings us our next Seymour finalist. The CSF adviser, Deborah Daniels, says of Olga: Olga is simply a wonderful young woman who has truly 'heard the call'! After all the studying, serving her church, and working part-time, she also finds time to oversee numerous volunteer projects both in and out of school.
Some of those projects include being CSF President, Spanish Club Historian, a member of Key Club, the Black Student Union, as well as playing Volleyball and Tennis. She works part-time at McDonald's while being an intern at the Twin Rivers Unified School District office. On top of that she performs in the choir, helps out at her Church Ministry, and tutors other students. Because of her involvement, Olga has several awards and recognitions among them Folsom High's Outstanding Scholastic Achievement and Attendance awards and a Certificate of Completion from the Heritage School of Ukrainian Studies.
Carolyn Wilson, Olga's Social Science Teacher, writes, Olga is a rare individual and a young adult that I feel honored to know and to have worked closely with. Her natural abilities combined with her work ethic and ability to evolve academically and socially are a recipe for success in the years to come.
Olga hopes to find this path starting at American River Community College and transferring to Stanford to attain a major in Forensic Science
